Bandung has one climbing gym on Climb Go Where: Yuk Manjat on Jalan Naripan in the Braga area. It has top rope, lead, speed and bouldering walls, with coaches on hand for first-timers.

Sessions start from Rp100,000, and gear hire is available, so you do not need your own shoes or harness. Yuk Manjat runs intro classes for beginners who want to learn the basics of roped climbing and belaying.

If you plan to climb on ropes without a coach, expect to show you can belay safely first. Bandung sits at a higher altitude than Jakarta and is cooler, which makes for more comfortable sessions on the wall. Weekday sessions are usually quieter than weekends.
