Camp5 1Utama opened in 2005 and is the flagship of Malaysia's largest climbing gym group. It sits on the 5th floor of 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama and is home to what Camp5 calls Malaysia's tallest indoor wall, which makes it popular with top-rope and lead climbers. Boulderers get a 5m top-out boulder.
The gym is air-conditioned, with showers and the in-house Eat Well Café. Rental shoes, harnesses, belay sets, ropes and chalk bags are available, and a day pass lets you exit and re-enter up to three times. Off-peak rates apply to check-ins before 4pm on weekdays, and 10-entry and multi-gym memberships work across all Camp5 outlets.
New climbers register online and can book a first-timer programme; those without the skills for independent access climb as guests under an experienced climber. It suits everyone from first-timers to lead climbers training on the big walls.
Weekend afternoons are busiest. First visit? Allow time for the safety briefing.
