Urban Playground Climbing is the climbing wall at The Racquet Club (RQ Club) on Sukhumvit Soi 49/9, and is often described as Bangkok's most established climbing gym. The walls run 12–16 metres high with more than 100 top-rope and lead routes, plus 100-plus bouldering problems and a cave. Routes are reset every week, and grades run from beginner level into the 7s and 8s.
You don't need a club membership to climb. First-timers sign a waiver and can then boulder, use the auto-belay lines without certification, book a staff belayer (฿600 per hour), or take the one-hour Intro to Climbing class (฿600, up to four people, ages 14+). The class gives you a top-rope belay certification and includes gear. Lead courses and personal training are also offered. Time Out notes that a day pass also gets you into the club's gym, sauna and pool.
It suits beginners who want ropes rather than just bouldering, and regulars who want lead climbing in central Bangkok.
Weekend afternoons are busiest. First visit? Allow time for the safety briefing.
