Project Rock IKEA Batu Kawan is on the first floor of the IKEA Batu Kawan Link Building on the Penang mainland, right by the store entrance. It has about 1,500 sq ft of bouldering wall and 1,500 sq ft of sport climbing wall, with eight top-rope lines, three auto-belays and a lead climbing wall, plus a kids' zone.
Rental shoes, harnesses, belay devices and ropes are available. The Beginner's Bundle (RM70) includes a 60-minute workshop on the basics and two weeks of unlimited entry with gear, and online early-bird day passes cost less than walk-in.
It is open 10am to 10pm daily and suits families, beginners on the auto-belays and rope climbers living on the mainland side.
Weekend afternoons are busiest. First visit? Allow time for the safety briefing.
