Hot Rock Climbing School was set up on Railay East in 1994 and now operates from Walking Street on West Railay Beach. It's led by local climbing pioneer Luang and his team. Railay is reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao (about 10 minutes).
Beginner joined-group sessions run at 9am and 2pm: ฿1,500 for a four-hour half day, or ฿2,600 for a full day that may include the Big Bat Cave and an abseil. Groups are three to four people. Kids' and family sessions use kid-size gear (from ฿1,200 for under-10s). There's also a two-day lead course (฿6,500), a three-day sports climbing course (฿8,500) and private guiding (฿3,500 half day). Multi-pitch guiding starts at ฿6,500. All programmes include gear and insurance.
It suits families and first-timers staying in Railay, as well as climbers who want to learn to lead.
Weekend afternoons are busiest. First visit? Allow time for the safety briefing.
