Krabi is Thailand's best-known outdoor climbing area, with limestone cliffs above the beaches at Railay and Tonsai. Climb Go Where lists five guide services here: Hot Rock Climbing School at Railay West, King Climbers at Railay East, Real Rocks Climbing at Railay, and Basecamp Tonsai and The Rock Shop on Tonsai Beach. All offer top rope and lead climbing, from first-timer intros to lead and multi-pitch courses.
Half-day group climbs cost ฿1,200 to ฿1,500, with children's rates of ฿1,200 at Hot Rock and Real Rocks. Basecamp Tonsai, The Rock Shop and Real Rocks hire out gear, and Real Rocks runs free hotel transfers from Ao Nang. Railay and Tonsai are reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang or Krabi town.
The main climbing season runs from around November to April, when the weather is drier. From May to October, rain and humidity leave the rock wetter and some days are lost. Start early, as many walls get full sun, and bring plenty of water.
